Psychologists & Clinicians at SiSU

Psychologists, counsellors and a nervous system coach, working with children, adolescents and adults across recovery, growth and performance.

how we work

Evidence-based, trauma-informed, and joined up with the rest of the studio

Our clinicians provide personalised, evidence-based support, tailoring treatment to each person's needs and goals. Because the movement studio and the recovery spaces are in the same building, a treatment plan can include them where that is useful, rather than referring you elsewhere.

All of our clinicians work from a trauma-informed and polyvagal-informed frame, which in practice means we spend time on what your nervous system is doing, not only on what you are thinking.

Choosing who you talk to

Fit matters more than almost anything else in therapy. Read about each of our clinicians before you enquire, and tell us who you would like to see.

Lia McInnis

Owner and director, clinical and forensic psychologist, co-founder

Bio

Hey, I'm Lia. I am the owner and CEO of SiSU Canberra and a clinical and forensic psychologist with a deep passion for helping people recover, grow and thrive.

My journey started with a degree in sports science and psychology at the University of Canberra, followed by an honours year at the Australian National University. I then moved to Sydney to complete my Masters in Forensic Psychology at UNSW, where I began my career working in Juvenile Justice and private forensic assessments.

After having my first daughter, Matilda, I returned to Canberra and worked for five years at the Alexander Maconochie Centre. Somewhere in between, I also welcomed my second beautiful girl, Sienna. During this time I completed my Masters of Clinical Psychology through Charles Sturt University. In 2018 I joined the Australian Federal Police as a psychologist, where I worked full time until taking the leap to build SiSU Canberra.

Alongside my psychology career, fitness has always been a big part of my life. I have been a qualified fitness instructor since I was 18, and I love combining the physical and psychological to support recovery and wellness. My special interests are trauma treatment, frontline worker support and women's health, areas I have focused on in my private practice for the past seven years.

I take this leap alongside some of the best people I know. My excellent and inspiring friend Camille joins me on this journey, and how lucky am I to work alongside my best friend every day? Our wonderful staff are all people Camille and I have hand-chosen for their skills, knowledge and their incredible, humanistic sisu energy. They step into this business not just as a job, but as a way of living, a way of being. I walk into SiSU with positive energy and a grateful heart.

Above all, the most important things in my life are my two amazing girls, my incredible friends and family, and the people who lift me up and inspire me to be my best.

It must be said that SiSU would not be possible without the financial backing, and the inspiration to never give up, of my late brother Todd. He was the most generous person I know, not only practically but with his time. He wanted deeply for those he loved to succeed and live happily.

Cath Brinkley

Counsellor

Bio

I focus on anxiety and post-traumatic stress, working with veterans, emergency services personnel and corrections staff dealing with PTS and the challenges that come as a result of their service. I also work with teenagers and young adults managing stress and anxiety around school, exams and assessments.

Using a range of somatic and therapeutic techniques, I work in a trauma-informed and person-centred way to address what you bring and help you reach your goals. I see clients online as well as face to face, which means I can work with people across Canberra and nationally.

My counselling qualifications are a Masters from Torrens University and a Graduate Certificate from the University of Canberra.

Outside work I am the busy mum of four active, challenging, spectacular and adored teenagers, a self-confessed coffee addict, and a reader. I admit to being more of a cat person than a dog person, and a city kid more than a country kid. I am also most definitely not a morning person.

Bio

I believe in the profound dialogue between our minds, our bodies and the world we inhabit, and my practice is designed to honour your unique inner wisdom within that connection.

I understand that the weight of modern life and the echoes of trauma often live within us, held in the body far below the surface of conscious thought. This wear and tear can show up as persistent psychological distress, inflammation, chronic pain or exhaustion, the tell-tale signs of a nervous system stuck in a cycle of survival. My mission is to help you compassionately unravel these layers, guiding you back to a life anchored in safety, joy and a genuine sense of presence.

I draw on a diverse clinical toolkit, including Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal Theory, Parts Work (IFS) and Pain Reprocessing Therapy. To complement these, I integrate practical skills such as gentle movement, mindfulness and breathwork, alongside the scientific insights of psychoneuroimmunology. The result is a clear, lasting connection to yourself that changes how you move through the world.

I was privileged to begin my career in women's inpatient trauma recovery. Those early experiences deeply informed my holistic path, leading me to offer my services alongside a brilliant team of integrative medicine doctors. Today I combine that dual background to support the SiSU team in our shared mission of whole-person healing.

When I am not in session, I am usually leaning into the simple joys that keep me grounded. Living in the Southern Highlands of NSW, I am spoiled for choice when it comes to enjoying the gifts of nature, a non-negotiable part of my own self-care. I am a firm believer in the medicine of a long, slow lunch surrounded by family and friends. On most days you will find me experimenting in the kitchen, finding rhythm through movement, or reclaiming my energy by singing loudly in the car.

hollie wildëthorn

Clinical counsellor and clinical supervisor

Bio

hollie wildëthorn is a PACFA-accredited clinical counsellor and clinical supervisor working with adults across complex trauma, neurodivergence, anxiety, identity and significant periods of change. Her clinical work is primarily psychotherapeutic, sitting at the intersections of feminism, trauma, neurodivergence, myth and ecology, and exploring the ways our psychological lives are shaped by relationship, body, culture and the living world.

Her approach is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming and relational, drawing particularly from Self Psychology, attachment and relational psychotherapy, affective neuroscience, somatic practice and nervous system regulation. hollie has a particular interest in working with women whose experiences have not always fitted neatly within conventional models of mental health, including late-identified neurodivergent women, and in supporting people to develop a stronger and more coherent sense of self from which to create their lives.

hollie is also trained in psychedelic-assisted therapies and works with altered-state approaches to psychotherapy. Alongside her clinical practice, she is an educator and clinical supervisor at the institute for self crafting, where her work extends beyond the therapy room through practitioner education, retreats, ongoing membership spaces and online programs exploring psychological, embodied, ecological and mythic approaches to creating a flourishing life.

She sees clients at SiSU Canberra in Deakin and online, and offers ecotherapy and equine-assisted psychotherapy from her practice near Braidwood.

Camille Bateman, nervous system coach, co-founder

Camille Bateman

Nervous system coach, co-founder

Bio

Hey, I'm Camille. I am the co-founder and nervous system coach at SiSU Canberra, and I am incredibly passionate about empowering people to achieve their picture of health and wellness success through everything we do here.

My background is a mix of business, finance and psychology. I completed a Bachelor of Business at UTS and a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) at ANU. From 2008 to 2012 I worked as a financial advisor, before shifting gears in 2013 when I had my first son and started a small property development company. Over the years that company completed several dual and tri-occupancy developments in Canberra, and in 2021 and 2022 I took on an eight-townhouse development in Bowral. Since 2023 my focus has been on large rural subdivisions across New South Wales.

While I have built a career in finance and property, I have always had a deep passion for creating opportunities for people to thrive. Through SiSU I get to bring that to life in a whole new way, supporting the operation of our Pilates, movement and wellness spaces and keeping abreast of our finances and figures. I love nothing more than a good Excel spreadsheet.

I am also the driving force behind our upcoming SiSU retreats, a vision that will let people experience SiSU in its truest form. They will bring together yoga, Pilates and psychological support in a space designed for growth, healing and connection, with the same focus on preventative health, movement therapy and top-tier psychological care.

More recently I have discovered a love for Pilates. It has been an incredible way to connect my mind and body, and to do something that is good for both. Outside SiSU I balance a busy work life with raising my two amazing boys. It is a beautiful chaos, and I would not have it any other way. I believe in living with positive intention, using mindful practices and affirmations to guide me.

I could not be more excited to be on this journey with my best friend Lia, and to be part of something as special as SiSU Canberra.
